A joint position statement by two groups representing orthopedic surgeons says that safe early-return-to-work programs are in the best interest of patients. Prolonged time away from work makes recovery and return to work less likely.
Main problem: The workers' compensation, disability and legal systems can discourage employees from attempting rehabilitation.
