Return to work can speed recovery for injured employee

Here's more reason to get a solid return-to-work program in place: A new report says patients have better outcomes with their injuries if they are involved in their recovery and return to work sooner.

A joint position statement by two groups representing orthopedic surgeons says that safe early-return-to-work programs are in the best interest of patients. Prolonged time away from work makes recovery and return to work less likely.

Main problem: The workers' compensation, disability and legal systems can discourage employees from attempting rehabilitation.
