The Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has proposed new rules requiring companies that employ commercial drivers to collect more pre-hire information about applicants' employment history, including their driving records and alcohol and drug tests. Also, the agency recently denied a trucking association's bid to allow 18- to 20-year-olds to drive trucks in interstate commerce. Current rules set an age-21 threshold.
