Q. We use a timecard punch-in/punch-out system. If an employee forgets to punch in, and we manually do it, do any labor laws apply? —B.B., New York

A. Even if workers fail to punch in or punch out, you can't dock their pay simply because they failed to record their time properly. As far as your right to “manually punch” an employee's card, go ahead and do that, so long as the manual punch indicates the correct hours worked.
