View rebates as a source of profits, not giveaways

in Small Business Tax

Rebates allow you to promote a lower "after rebate" price. But at least half of rebates are never claimed because consumers lose or throw away the rebate form, or they never bother to complete the paperwork and mail it, according to the FTC. Many other rebate requests are rejected because they contain errors or arrive late. Redemption rates are lowest for rebates that require a laborious application process. Advice: To avoid customer disputes about rebates, write easy-to-follow rebate instructions, and don't put important details in fine print.
