With no raises on the way, how can we keep employees motivated?

by on
in People Management,The HR Specialist Forum

Management just let everyone know that we're going to continue a salary freeze for at least another six months. For some people, that means they won't have seen a raise in more than two years. How can we keep our employees motivated when it doesn't seem like there's any light at the end of the tunnel?—B.D., New York

When wages were frozen here, I started doing gift card raffles and scratch-off lottery tickets. When staff see the red raffle tickets, or lottery tickets, attached to their paychecks (I am still doing this) they get very excited. I spend about $1,000 a year which is a bargain and for what I get in return, priceless.
