Walmart employees who also are in the military or are married to military spouses can keep their jobs, even if their service requires them to move to another part of the country.
The 9,000-store chain has guaranteed its 2 million employees that it will find a local job for them if the military transfers the family to a new location.
The organization’s “Military Family Promise” is the organization’s response to a call by First Lady Michelle Obama and Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, for all sectors of society to offer opportunities to military personnel.
In addition, the retailer pays the difference between Walmart salaries and military pay for employees who are called to active military duty.
Walmart U.S. CEO Bill Simon has said the program will help ease the financial strain that military families often suffer when they have to relocate.
