The time to register for those fall-season administrative professional conferences is now. As appealing as they look, though, are they worth the cost and time investment?
Probably. Particularly if you’re thinking of changing jobs in the near future.
Sixty to 90% of jobs are found informally, mainly through friends, relatives and direct contacts. The U.S. Department of Labor reports well over half of all workers use informal job-finding methods.
Before you make the decision, ask yourself these three bottom-line questions:
- Will you meet people you otherwise wouldn’t?
- Will you learn skills that will advance your career?
- Will you invest the charisma and effort to make it worthwhile?
If the answer to any of those is no, then don’t go.
