In 2010, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration prohibited commercial truck and bus drivers from texting while driving. Last month, the same federal agency proposed banning such drivers from reaching for, holding or dialing a cell phone while operating a commercial vehicle.

The comment period runs until Feb. 22. The proposal asks for comment on whether use of hands-free phones should also be banned while driving a commercial vehicle.
