The regulations explaining the new health care reform law have begun to roll out of Washington. Michael Aitken, SHRM’s director of government affairs, says employers will make mistakes but the IRS, Department of Labor and HHS are expected to be understanding—at least for a while.
“Errors are going to be allowable," Aitken says, "but within the construct of good faith.… They’re not going to ding you for honest mistakes.”
He also said that even if Republicans take back Congress in November, you’re not likely to see repeal or any large-scale changes to the law. Most likely, you’ll see a “technical corrections” bill that tweaks the current bill based on necessary changes.
