An increasing number of employees at desk jobs are taking a stand for their health and ditching their chairs. At AOL’s campus in Virginia, about 10% of employees have switched to desks raised to about stomach level. GeekDesk, which sells standing desks, says sales are likely to triple this year.
Advocates of standing desks tout the health and alertness benefits. Detractors cite potential back problems and varicose veins. Another option: Treadmill desks, which allow you to slowly walk while you work.
