Agreed. Should be filed under W as that is the name of the Company. Its not like a last name of a person.
We had about a dozen file cabinets of files that were used by 15 people in the department. Since everyone didn’t always know the name of the company they were looking for, but they did know that the firm was an architect firm we used to file under Architect and then alphabetical by company name. i.e., Architect (William Starck Architects).
A person’s name is filed last name first, but a company’s name is filed exactly as the name is written. In this case, under W for William Starck Architects.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. Sometimes we over-think things.
I agree with Claudia 100%. Its the company / organization name.
Referring to The Gregg Reference Manual, “Treat each word in the name of an organization as a separate unit, and consider the units in the same order as they are written on the letterhead or some other authoritative document.” So William Starck Architects would be filed under “W”.
