I would suggest doing something within the community as Colette suggested, that sounds like a rewarding way to go. The cleaner ingredients sound like a good idea but that might fade where the park being cleaned up would be appreciated by many more than just within your own company. And who can resist a BBQ

Check with your local Park & Recreation District. Many will have a variety of volunteer days throughout the week around Earth Day. If you are in the Bay Area, CA see http://www.ebparks.org for multiple opportunities.

Why not make “Paper Hats/FLowers from the paper that would be shredded. After it’s shredded, you can also make some “grass”. Have a contest to see who can be most creative.

Our office participates in “Creek Week” . This is where our office goes to a local creek and really cleans it up. The whole community participates and it makes everyone feel great. The event is on a Saturday morning followed by a BBQ.

Last year we held a “Clean Green” event. We purchased the ingredients for 5 simple homemade cleansers that were environment friendly. We asked participants to bring in containers from home for their cleansers. During the event the participants were able to go to different stations and assemble the ingredients for the various cleansers. They were each given a copy of the recipes so they could make more when they ran out. This was a successful event with a lot of positive feedback from the participants.
