How do I motivate staff and bring in customers?

In my opinion contests do not promote sales and growth but instead discourage team work. If you staff is interested in competitions be sure they are divided into teams and not individuals. This will promote information sharing and group think.

If your employees are competing with each other they are not going to give away their secrets of success…
