I use salary.com on a regular basis. It allows you to do personal searches by area code and gets into specific job duties that are included to get you as close as possible. If you do as company it charges so I just do as if it was for me. It will give you bottom, middle, and top ranges and national and local data. It has been a great tool to evaluate others levels as well as my own.

Use you can use your state agency. In RI, we have the Department of Labor and Training. They have available the average payrates for several positions.
Also, if you belong to a Professional Organization in the admin field (ie IAAP and NAESSA, those organizations may also have that information available.

URL: http://www.bls.gov/OES is the website for the US Dept of labor and statistics. You can research it by category, region and field (i.e. healthcare industry, legal, etc.)
