Gov. Jon Corzine joined the governors of Connecticut and New York to request a $48 million grant for displaced financial workers from U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao. The grant would fund individual training accounts of $12,500 per worker for 24 months to cover job search and relocation expenses.
The state Senate also sent a bill to Corzine that would provide $120 million for capital investment incentives and employment grants. If signed, the employment portion of the bill would give employers a $3,000 grant for each new hire on the payroll for at least one year.
