If you’re using Office 2007 and wondering whether it’s worth the trouble to upgrade to Office 2010, take a look at a few new features for each application, then decide.
Under the heading of “new” and “cool” in Outlook has to be the new conversation cleanup feature. When several people use Reply All in a conversation thread, pretty soon you have 50 emails with what you are sure is duplicate information. Using the Clean-up button tells Outlook to remove any unnecessary emails in a conversation thread, leaving you with the minimum number of emails that capture all of the unique replies.
If you’re a data geek like me, you’ll love Sparklines and Slicers. Sparklines offer you a way to put an onscreen trend graph to show how data trends across a row. Slicers are used with Pivot Tables to offer the end user easy filtering choices with a click or two.
For your more complex documents with multiple headings, you can use the new Document Navigation Pane to easily move around. It is pretty much a dashboard to your document.
There is much to love about PowerPoint, so it's hard to narrow down to just one cool tool. Thus, I will reference two, both related to video. You can take a PowerPoint presentation and turn it into a video using File, Save and Send, then Create a Video. You can also now easily embed video right in your PowerPoint presentation from a website, like YouTube.com Using the Video from Website option on the Video button in the Media group on the Insert tab, copy and paste the embed code. (Hint: you may have to use the “old embed code” option.)
