Not everyone is going to get along with everyone else at work. The fact is that some employees may be more difficult to like than others.
But as long as an employer makes sure its “difficult” employees are treated with civility, it doesn’t matter that co-workers ignore them or form their own little cliques.
Recent case: Thomas Storkamp worked as a nurse at Fort Bragg and didn’t get along with his peers.
He sued, alleging he had been forced to work in a hostile environment. Storkamp’s claim: He sometimes had to work in areas that were short-staffed, which he attributed to’s effort to keep him away from co-workers. He also claimed the other nurses didn’t include him in their tightknit clique.
The court tossed out his case because minor annoyances aren’t enough for a lawsuit. (Storkamp v. Geren, et al., No. 5:06-CV-339, ED NC, 2009)
